Pearland Cobblers Name Nokona Powell General Manager
Pearland, TX — The Pearland Cobblers are proud to announce Nokona Powell as the organization’s General Manager, bringing a strong background in coaching, leadership, and community development to the franchise as it begins building its identity in Pearland.
Powell steps into the role with a vision centered on creating something meaningful that extends far beyond the field.
“What excites me most is the opportunity to build something meaningful in Pearland from the ground up,” said Powell. “This isn’t just about putting a team on the field—it’s about creating a culture that the community can be proud of. Being able to bring together talented players, connect with local families, and establish a program that represents Pearland the right way is something I don’t take lightly. There’s a real opportunity here to do something special.”
Fans can expect a competitive and disciplined style of play from the Cobblers, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and effort. “We’re going to play the game the right way—with energy, discipline, and a competitive edge,” Powell said. “We’ll bring in a mix of local talent and high-level players who understand how to compete and represent something bigger than themselves. More than anything, fans will see a team that values effort and playing for each other.”
The opportunity to lead the Cobblers was a natural fit for Powell, given his deep ties to the community and passion for building programs that make a lasting impact. “What drew me to this was the chance to lead and build within a community that already has a strong foundation in athletics,” he said. “Pearland has a reputation for developing talent and supporting its teams, and I saw this as a chance to contribute to that legacy. It’s about creating opportunities for players while connecting the game to the community in a meaningful way.”
A Texas native, Powell grew up playing both football and baseball, developing a strong competitive drive and appreciation for teamwork. His connection to Pearland runs deep, having played in Pearland Little League and attended Pearland High School, making this opportunity a full-circle moment in his journey.
Coming from a family of coaches, Powell developed a deep respect for the game and the role mentors play in shaping young athletes. That foundation led him into coaching and educational leadership, where he has dedicated his career to helping student-athletes grow both on and off the field.
In addition to his role with the Cobblers, Powell serves as the Executive Director of the Texas Coaches Collective, where he works to support, connect, and develop coaches across the state.
“At the core of everything I do is a passion for developing people and building something that lasts,” Powell said. “I believe in creating environments that push individuals to reach their full potential and where relationships matter. That’s the mindset I bring into this role every day.”
With a strong commitment to leadership, player development, and community engagement, Powell is poised to lead the Pearland Cobblers into an exciting new chapter.
The Pearland Cobblers look forward to building a program that the community can rally around as they bring high-level baseball and a strong sense of pride to Pearland.
